Political Suicide – Giveaway!

Author: Darcia Helle  //  Category: Giveaways, Things I've Read

I have an advanced copy of Political Suicide by Michael Palmer to give away!

I’ve been a fan of Michael Palmer’s books since I first discovered them in the early ’90s. He writes a combination of medical and political thrillers, with characters that are easy to relate to. One of the things I like best of Michael’s writing is he weaves plots that make me think. Most recently, his books featuring Dr. Lou Welcome have tackled some intriguing topics.

Oath of Office, the first in this series, takes on the issue of genetically engineered food. This is a very real and controversial issue here in the U.S. (Most other developed countries have strict laws against GM foods.) I could easily stand on my soapbox and spout for days on this topic. If you know little to nothing about genetically engineered food, I highly suggest reading Seeds of Deception by Jeffrey Smith. I read the book when it came out in 2003, and still have it sitting on my shelf. It’s a truly eye-opening, well-written and researched book that everyone should read. I find it surprising how little most people know about the food they put in their stomachs.

Excuse my roaming slightly off topic. Back to Michael Palmer. Oath of Office is one of those fiction books that tackles a controversial topic and educates while it entertains.

Political Suicide also has a theme relevant to our world today. How far would our military go to win the war on terrorism? How far would we let them go? And what would you be willing to do if you disagreed?

For many of us, these might be difficult questions to answer. In a passionate moment, you might say you’re willing to do anything. Or you might say we’ve already gone too far. Wherever you stand, this book will make you think harder about and look closer at our government’s secrecy, and the freedom we allow military and government leaders in their choices.

While Dr. Lou Welcome is a recurring character, and these two books are a series, they both function perfectly as stand-alone reads. Political Suicide is due to be published on December 11. But I have in my hands a brand new advanced copy to give away! Here are the details:
