Outside is dangerous.
Such is the warning Koral has heard for twelve years. Born a product of genetic manipulation, he knows little else of the world beyond the steel walls of his home.
When fate gives him the choice between certain death and the unknown, there’s no question in what he must choose. But he’s about to find out the sands he must brave are full of more than mere monsters.
Providing the desert doesn’t kill him first.
This is a world ruled by instinct, where innocence is drowned in blood. Here, men are offered up to the great Serpent God, Lorric, only to emerge as the most feared killers on the planet: The Rogues.
With the god’s sights set on turning Koral into a legend, he must sacrifice himself to survive and be reborn as… The Rogue King
Shirain lifted her arms out towards the giant statue, the sound of her bracelets clacking together echoed across the ruins. ʺBehold our offering, Mighty Lord! Take his body as your own! Use him! Guide him in your ways so he may live to make you stronger!ʺ
The bowl slipped from his unfeeling hands to splash into the pond. Above, the statue’s eyes glowed a deep red. Behind him, Koral heard Shirain continue talking, her voice faint and muffled. His blood grew hot, desire filling his body and fogging his mind. What had she done to him?
ʺYour gift is pleasing, dear child.ʺ The words tumbled out of a mouth Koral could no longer control. ʺThis body is young. Barely a man.ʺ Someone else flexed his muscles. His lips twisted into a cruel grin as his tongue ran over his sharp teeth. ʺHe will need much training.ʺ
ʺMy Lord,ʺ Shirain purred, giving him a low bow. ʺOnce more, you honour me.ʺ
Awareness of another’s presence came crashing down on him, bringing with it an odd calmness. He knew little of magic or religion. Amelia’s teaching on the subject had been sparse; most of what he had learnt came from the camp and no one had mentioned possession. Would he win if he tried to banish the intruder? Was this not his body?
A rough laugh escaped his throat as he unwillingly turned from the statue and waded through the blood to dry land. ʺHe fights me.ʺ
ʺHe showed promise as a fighter,ʺ Shirain said, sounding strangely proud. ʺI hope he pleases my Lord and proves more interesting to break than the others.ʺ
ʺYes, this will be… enjoyable.ʺ Again, his lips pulled back into something that resembled a smile in name only. ʺBy the time I’ve finished with him, everyone shall fear the very name of him—the name of Vengeance.ʺ

Interview – Getting To Know Aldrea Alien:
What book(s) have most influenced you?
I think, over the years, I’ve been influenced by a lot of books. Anne McCaffrey’s Dragons of Pern, Jennifer Roberson’s Cheysuli Series, Andre Norton’s Witch World and an awful lot of David Eddings‘ works. I’m certain Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels have also played their part.
What is your favorite TV show?
Doctor Who. It’s the only show I haven’t dropped in favour of writing or lost interest in completely.
If you were to place yourself as a character in a novel, would the story be Mystery/Suspense, Fantasy, or Romance?
I want to say Fantasy, but it would depend quite heavily on the type of fantasy. A world like Pern might be fun … but only if I can have a dragon. In fact, I’ll settle for having the dragon. An itty-bitty lap dragon.
Do you prefer summer or winter?
Let’s see now … summer is hot and dusty and full of insects, whereas winter is cold and muddy and wet. I’d still have to go for winter, despite feeling the cold so well. I can always get warm somehow.
Do you prefer the country or the city?
Country without a doubt. I’ve spent most of my life on the fringes of the city and although there are times where I wish we were closer to that cheap landline broadband the TV’s always telling me about, I wouldn’t want to live anywhere where my neighbours are right in my pocket. Besides, where would my daughter’s pony graze?
Are you spontaneous or are you a planner?
A bit of both, really. I try to plan but, more often than not, a new idea or character pops up that throws it all for a loop.
Do you play video games?
I do. Playing them one of the ways I clear my head when writer’s block sets in. I’ve even had one story originate whilst I was in the middle of one game.
Do you prefer cats or dogs?
Well, we have both. And yet … I’d have to say cats. Definitely cats. They’re like mini panthers prowling our property. Also, I can sleep easily with them on the bed. My fiancé not so much (my darling black and white boy thinks that second lump in the bed is a platform), but me? Certainly.
What is your favorite material possession?
That would be a little gold ring with two dolphins on it. It was my aunt’s wedding band but … my uncle died (fourteen years back) and, since I had always adored it, she promised to give it to me if I managed to break in this young Thoroughbred mare we had within a certain timeframe. I did, so she did.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
To be capable of becoming two people whenever I wished, that way I could be in two places at once. Of course, I can’t help but think something bad would happen there. So long as regain my memories throughout separation and regrouping, I think I’ll manage.
